• 29 - Volunteers are needed to help with the Monthly Canteen Dances hosted by the Bastrop County Mental Retardation Board. We are asking businesses in the area to consider asking their employees to volunteer one night a year to assist the Bastrop County Mental Retardation Board with these events which are held once a month on a Friday night. Participation would include setting up and taking down tables and chairs, collecting ticket money, running a snack stand, and cleaning up, sweeping and taking out the trash at the end of the evening. The volunteers would be needed from 5:00 p.m. to around 9:30 p.m. If you would like to consider volunteering to help with our Canteen dances, please e-mail Kathy at k-rector-l@austin.rr.com or call Janet at 360-4501 or Mona at 360-2246. • 29 - Monthly Canteen Dances are hosted by the Bastrop County Mental Retardation Board for developmentally disabled consumers. This event started in 1989 in Smithville at the Goodtimes Center at the corner of 2nd and Main Streets where music was donated by a small band and at that time we had approximately 50 attendees. The event has grown and is now held at the Smithville Recreation Center, with a DJ providing the music with a monthly attendance of approximately 200 consumers with developmental disabilities. BCMRA is seeking donations to be able to continue to provide this monthly entertainment. We thank you for your past support and hope we can count on you now! Please mail any donations to BCMRA, P. O.
